Surfing the Web

Last night, I saw that an alert reader over at the Yahoo Antique Pattern group has shared this link to 15 issues of Home Needlework Magazine, mostly from 1914-1915, free online. Most have tatting in them, and some really splendid crochet too. I should have been in bed or working on my next book, but nooo, there I was, downloading files and browsing through them through the wee hours.

About that Facebook thing.... Facebook always seemed to be an overwhelming bother since my newsfeed was choked with a huge amount of not-too-interesting stuff from total strangers. Like pictures of shoes.  Hundreds of shoes.  This came from accepting too many friend requests from people I didn't know, but had some friends in common. I decided to clean this up, and had unfriended some people before I realized I could simply remove them from the newsfeed. Sorry about that.  I've still got some cleaning up to do, but at least now I can log on now and then and see posts from people I actually know and some pretty pictures. I tend to wait and deal with a bunch of friend requests at once instead of one at a time, and now I usually just accept them from people I know, or who have really cool avatars. (Please don't take that as a challenge.)  Is there an advantage to having a bazillion "friends" you don't know?  I guess if I got active on Etsy again, it would be a good way to advertise.

About the Blogger thing... Some of you have tabs at the top to link to more Blogger pages for patterns and such. Some of you can reply to individual comments. How do you do that? I think I may have missed an opportunity to upgrade somewhere along the line, or maybe it's all there and I'm too dumb to find it.

There will be a new book. This is what I've got so far:

It might be ready later this year if I would quit wasting all my time on the internet.

PS. Don't tell my family they are all getting Dr Who t-shirts from RedBubble, another place where I've spent hours lately when I really should have been doing something else.

  2. Well, for the blogger thing, what I do is I go to my dashboard, and then click layout on the sidebar on the left hand side of the page, and then on top of "blog posts", there's a little bar that says "add a gadget". I click that, and then in the little window that pops up I figure out how I want the pages arranged and everything, and then just save it =)

  4. I have a love hate relationship with Facebook. Don't know why but I never feel that comfortable there and usually scurry off pretty quickly.
REALLY looking forward to the new book - intriguing pictures. You are a tease!!

    1. I didn't bother for the longest time, but then I realized that a few good friends spoke up there instead of on blogs.

  5. The internet can be beguiling can't it? I'm sometimes torn between getting on with creating something and browsing on the internet to see what others have created.

  6. Never joined Facebook, some how I dont feel safe on it and its just another thing that people can get to know your personal stuff.
As for blogger I have yet to find out how to add pages so I started another blog for patterns which I wish I could import onto one.
My husband says I spend too much time on the computer, add Facebook and anything else I would never be off.

  8. for comments,
at the top of your blog, click on design. then in the left column click on the settings choice.
Then set your comments location to "Embedded".

for pages, you start by clicking on Design, then in the left column click on pages, then active the pages and name them.

Have a very happy Thanksgiving Martha.

  9. Also, just a suggestion, if you are going to keep your comments set for blog owner moderation, then while you are in your comments setting page, why not turn off the word verification? It would be much appreciated.

  10. For replying to individual comments, it depends on your browser. I'm not able to do it using IE, but I can using Firefox. I would imagine you could do it with Chrome also, since it and Blogger are both Google products. I don't know about Safari.
