Inspiration for the Oz Tatting

Someone said my Dorothy was pudgy 😢

(It's OK, just joking with the crying face.)

Since I'm working from the book illustrations, I don't think I'm too far off. Getting that ruffle all the way across the yoke of her dress without a cut and tie was a challenge, but I managed.  I'll stand by my Dorothy.

  1. Didn't mean to hurt your feelings, Martha 💝 All the models are truly cleverly constructed and excellent representations!

    1. No hurt feelings at all. I was actually joking, though it may not have come across like that. This gave me an excellent excuse to show the book illustrations, which I was eventually going to do anyway.

  2. Love seeing your inspiration. So clever to translate the pictures into tatting.

  3. Oh, poor Dorothy. I don’t think she’s podgy specially when you look at the original drawings. Tell her I think she’s just right.

  4. Remember 'way back when' - when little girls were dressed in frilly dresses that had very FULL skirts....and the layers of itchy, stiff, scratchy crinoline stuff you had to wear underneath? I'm guessing that's why Dorothy's dress is so 'poofy' - that itchy stiff stuff underneath her skirt. :)

  5. I agree with Stephanie, full skirts were the norm for girls. I like how close you were to the original drawings, very nice designs!
